Save The Alex
Upon hearing the news that the pub a mere 50 metres from my house was going to be bulldozed and replaced with some flats I was pretty distressed.
Within seconds I'd set up the Save The Alex Facebook page and started posting about the tragedy of us losing another historical Sydney Icon. Astonishingly it turned out that I wasn't the only one upset by this, in fact over 2000+ liked the page, there were over 500 submissions to the council opposing the development, over 100+ people turned up to protest at the pub, and I got on the radio to talk about the whole issue.
All of this resulted in council recommending the 80-year-old Alexandria Hotel be permanently heritage-listed due to its historical, aesthetic and social significance. Result!
